THE PANTRY

I spent today cleaning and organizing the pantry.
You've got to love pantries: one single place to store all the dry goods. If you are into bulk shopping or are just good at hitting sales and stocking up, a pantry is a true blessing.
Our house was built in the late 1940's, and my Beloved purchased it from an industrious contractor, who had re-done the interior and added onto the house. He did a fair decent job, except for the pantry.
For whatever reasons, he chose to make the kitchen area coat closet smaller (it holds all of 5 hanging jackets) and the pantry bigger. Sounds somewhat reasonable, right?
Think again.
He put the double pantry doors to the far right of the pantry area, giving one full access to about half of the pantry space.
So, the left side of the pantry is mostly wasted space, bless his thoroughly male heart, and it is literally a stretch to get anything back there, or out of there. Why, oh, why didn't he center the pantry doors?
So, as you can see, I put the dangerous stuff (aka: Hershey's Chocolate Syrup and the like) way back there. That empty spot you see below the Hershey's will host gallon storage jars of sugar (said gallon jars are currently washed and are drying). Yes, I did say gallon jars of sugar: not so much for us, but for the hummingbird food I make.
That top shelf has paper plates that have been there for, oh, about 13 years now. As we can't reach them, we don't use them. Storage, ye ken.
